How to Talk About Your Routine in English
Many beginners say short, simple sentences like this:
❌ "I wake up at 7. I eat. I go to work."
This is correct English. But it sounds flat, like a list, not like real speaking.
What Works Instead
Add three small words: usually, then, after that. These words connect your sentences and make them sound natural.
✅ "I usually wake up at 7. Then I eat breakfast. After that, I go to work."
Same information. But now it sounds like a real person talking.
How to Use Each Word
Usually — use this at the start, to talk about things you do most days.
"I usually wake up at 7."
"I usually have coffee in the morning."
Then — use this to show what happens next.
"Then I eat breakfast."
"Then I take the bus to work."
After that — use this to show one more step, after "then."
"After that, I go to work."
"After that, I check my email."
More Examples
A full daily routine:
"I usually wake up at 7. Then I take a shower. After that, I eat breakfast. Then I go to work."
A weekend routine:
"I usually sleep late on weekends. Then I make coffee. After that, I read for a while."
Try This
Write 3 sentences about your own daily routine.
Use "usually" in the first sentence, "then" in the second, and "after that" in the third.
